It's over!

Looks like I'm the big winner of the playoff pool! The final game won't be played for almost two weeks, but I don't think anyone can catch me. Steve, Lynda, Liam, Kerri, Faisal, and Jeff have no players left that I don't have, so they definitely can't catch me. Mike has Stephen Hoar, who I don't, but Hoar would have to have a 43-point game for that to happen. Hoar, incidentally, averaged just over 16 points a game in the regular season. Jerry has to hope that Shawn Evans and Bill Greer outscore Shawn Williams by 78 points for him to win.

In the second place race, Lynda and Liam can't catch Steve, but Mike could, again with Stephen Hoar having a very big game.

Of course, this doesn't really mean that I win money, it just means that I don't need to give out any money. Current money situation as I see it:

  • I owe Jeff $75 for regular season win
  • I owe Faisal $25 for regular season 2nd place
  • I owe Jerry $20 since he paid for the playoff pool but came in last in the regular season
  • I owe Todd $20 since he paid for the playoff pool but didn't pick a team
  • Mike, Liam, and Lynda each owe me $20 for the playoff pool
  • If the standings stay as they are, I will owe Steve $45 (25% of $180 (9 team * $20 each) for 2nd in the playoff pool

If I'm missing anything, please let me know!

Update: As of June 5. Lynda will give Jerry $20, so they're good, and I still have to pay Jeff, Faisal, and Steve.
As of mid-June. Gave/mailed cheques to Jeff, Faisal, and Steve.

Pick your playoff team!

The playoff groups have been created, so you can go ahead and pick your playoff teams now. Just like last year, there are 6 groups of 6 players each, 2 groups of 3 goalies each, and 4 wild card players. Remember, just like last year, there are no byes, so any team can play up to three playoff games. Get your teams in by game time Friday! If you pick your team and want to make a change, send me a message or email before game time Friday and I'll change it for you.

Final Results

Congratulations to Jeff on an amazing season! Jeff was in first place every week of the season. Jeff, I suggest you send thank-you cards to Brian Langtry (who won group 5 by 150 points over Toth and Accursi), Rob Blasdell (who won group 17 by 102 points over Nick Patterson), and Gary Rosyski and Luke Wiles (who were two of the top 3 wild card picks).

Here are the final stats for Q4:

Congrats to Steve who is the winner of Q4! Congrats also to Jerry, who finished last overall, and gets into the playoff pool for free! Jerry, you gave me cash for the playoff pool last week, so I now owe you $20.

The first playoff game is Toronto @ Rochester next Friday night. I will try and get the playoff groups ready today so that you have all week to make your picks.

Corrected stats

OK, here's the deal. Week 11 (in the NLL) only featured the All-Star game, so the stats at the end of week 11 (in the pool) should have been the same as those at the end of week 10. The overall standings are available here, but that doesn't show the quarterly stats. On that page, the stats for week 11 are actually those for week 12, and the stats for week 12 are actually those for week 13, and so on. As of the end of week 11 (really week 12), Kerri was winning the quarter, so she should be the rightful 3rd quarter winner. Sorry, Steve.

Note: Changing the data in the database would be a serious hassle, so the web site still thinks that Steve is the winner of Q3. This will not change.

The 4th quarter winner may also be affected. Once the final stats are in, the 4th quarter "winner" will be listed on the main page, but that may be wrong. I will need to take the final numbers and subtract the point totals at the end of week 11 (really week 12) to get the real numbers for Q4.

I screwed up again

I had to make a change to the pool - you will now notice that we are at the end of week 15, not week 14 as it was a few minutes ago. If you look through the stats, you will see that nobody got any points in week 15. This should have been week 11, since that was the week of the All-Star game. But because I did do the right thing then, I had to do it now because there is only one week left of the season, and there are assumptions all over the pool website that the season has 16 weeks in it. If the league expands the season to, say, 18 or 20 weeks, I have some serious work to do on the site.

Anyway, Q4 will consist of three weeks of stats, not four, where Q2 should have consisted of three weeks, but instead consisted of four. My apologies. It's possible that this affected the quarterly winners - if I get a chance, I will see if I ran re-run the stats for Q2 and Q3 and see if the quarterly winners change.

Also, the Best Weeks page was screwed up, so I have fixed that. In case you're interested, Scott Evans had 151 points in 2 games in week 4, though John Grant had 117 points in one game in week 5. For goalies, Anthony Cosmo has the best two weeks, with 160 points in 2 wins in week 14, and 152 points in 2 wins in week 12 (tied by Palidwor with a win and a loss in week 14). The best single game for a goalie was Rob Blasdell, with 118 points in a win in week 3.
